Europe’s fastest Top Fuel dragster was completely destroyed during qualifying for the 2002 FIA European Final at Santa Pod. Barry Sheavills Carlube sponsored car broke into pieces at around the one thousand foot mark, sending the engine section one way, and the drivers compartment barrel rolling in another direction. Official timing showed that the ¼ mile run would have been around 4.85 and 310 mph had everything gone OK - as it was, the timers stopped at 4.94/277 still making Barry top qualifier and unable to compete in the elimination’s. Luckily Barry walked away from the accident in one piece.
